Buddhist club for environment protection established in Dong Thap

A Buddhist club in Dong Thap province’s An Hiep commune established for promoting environment protection and climate change response has formally made its debut at a ceremony held on May 20.

The ceremony was co-organized by An Hiep commune Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Truc Lam pagoda, and attended by representatives of local authorities and large numbers of Buddhists and residents.

The Buddhist club, comprising 34 members, aims to raise awareness of local residents on environment protection and climate change response, as well as implement action plans for religious communities and residents to take part in practical activities for environment protection in the locality.

So far, An Hiep commune currently has two religious clubs working towards environment protection and climate change response with 60 members of religions. The religious clubs  so far have implemented the program “Clean Sunday” for collecting wastes and cleaning public places, built 18 septic tanks for agricultural waste treatment and 120 household waste dumps, established a waste collection group and planted flowers and trees in public roads, etc.
