The board for solidarity of Catholics in Tien Giang province’s Cho Gao district held on April 19 the 4th general meeting for the 2017-2022 tenure on Catholic contributions to national construction and defense.

Attending the event were 70 Catholic clergies and followers representing about 6,000 Catholics in the district.

Local guests at the gathering included representatives from the provincial committee for religious affairs and the district people’ committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s committee.

The event discussed results of the patriotic movement and the Catholic solidarity board’s activities during the last tenure.  For the past five years, Catholic followers in the district have proactively engaged in social movements launched by local authorities and contributed approximately one billion VND to charity activities.

The one-day meeting also elected 15 members to the board for the 2017 – 2022 tenure and presented certificates of merit granted by the district people’s committee to the Catholic board and its typical individuals for their outstanding contributions in the patriotic movement during the last term.
