VBS in Tien Giang reviews Buddhist affairs 2020

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in the southern province of Tien Giang held on January 24 a conference for reviewing Buddhist affairs 2020 and mapping out plans of activities for 2021.

The event taking place in the office of the VBS chapter based in Vinh Trang pagoda located in the province’s My Tho city saw the attendance of Most Venerable Thích Huệ Minh, Member of the VBS’s Central Executive Council cum Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in Tien Giang, and large numbers of Buddhist dignitaries from the provincial and district-level VBS executive bodies in the locality.

Guests at the event included Head of the Committee for Religious Affairs of Tien Giang Bùi Thị Mai and representatives from local authorities.

As reported at the reviewing conference, last year Buddhists in Tien Giang contributed over 93.5 billion VND for building charitable houses for the poor, presenting supports to poor patients and people with disabilities, taking care of children of disadvantaged families, presenting scholarships to children of poor households with good school results, and supporting other social and charitable programs and movements launched by local authorities.

During the event, Most Venerable Chairman of the VBS executive committee in Tien Giang Thích Huệ Minh took the chance to thank local authorities for supporting Buddhist practices and affairs of the VBS chapter in the province in 2020 and praised local monks and nuns for their practical contributions to Buddhist affairs last year.

On the occasion, provincial authorities of Tien Giang presented certificates of recommendation to 16 Buddhist groups and 22 Buddhists for their outstanding contribution for socio-economic development in the locality, and the VBS executive committee in the province also awarded certificates of merit to outstanding Buddhist groups and individuals for their contributions to Buddhist affairs in 2020.
