The festival opened with a procession, dragon dance performances, incense offering, worshipping rituals, as well as speeches recounting the fighting process against foreign invaders by General Hoàng Công Chất.
The festival also featured unique cultural activities of ethnic groups in the locality, with booths displaying local handicraft products and specialties, art performances and folk games including bag jumping, tug of war, con throwing, etc.
The festival is annual held on the 24th of the second lunar month honoring General Hoàng Công Chất and other generals of local ethnic minority groups for their efforts in driving off foreign invaders from China in the 18th century in order to save Muong Thanh region.
The festival was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2016.
This year festival commemorated the 265th anniversary of General Hoàng Công Chất’s victory (1754-2019) and his 250th death anniversary, as well as is part of events celebrating the 65th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory.
