Promoting religious resources for socio-economic development

A conference titled “Belief and religion with sustainable development and policies relating to belief and religion in the new period” was held in Hanoi on August 3 by the Central Committee's Economic Commission.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee's Economic Commission Đinh Văn Cương said that in the current integration period, religions in Vietnam have became a physical and spiritual resource for the socio-economic development, contributing to the sustainable development in the country.

At the meeting, participating delegates stressed that promoting religious and cultural resources for the sustainable development of the country must go hand in hand with reducing negative and backward factors in order to propose solutions to attract and exploit religious resources into the socio-economic development.

Currently, approximately 95% of the country population practices certain forms of belief, with about 25 million followers of religions (accounting for about 27% the population), 83,000 dignitaries, 250,000 deacons, 46 religious training colleges and 25,000 worshipping places.
