The Vietnamese Buddhist oversea community in Seoul, Korea held on November 10 a ceremony to establish a Buddhist ashram and launch a Vietnamese pagoda project in Seoul.

The event taking place at Phap Long pagoda saw the participation of Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Vice President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council, Senior Venerable Thích Nhật Từ, Head of the Committee on Dharma Propagation under the VBS, Superior Nun Bongak, Head of Committee on Nun Affairs under the Jogye Buddhist Sect, and Nun Thích nữ Giác Hiếu, Head of the Buddhist ashram in Korea.

The republic of Korea has currently 230,000 Vietnamese who are living and working in the country. The Vietnamese community in Korea has longed for a Vietnamese pagoda be built in Seoul and serving as a cultural and spiritual place for the Vietnamese Buddhists in the country.

The land purchase and administrative procedures for construction of the Vietnamese pagoda is expected to be complete in 2020 with the estimated cost of about three million USD.
