The United Nations investigators said on September 16 that nearly 600,000 Rohingya Muslims remaining in Myanmar still face a serious risk of violence, warning that the repatriation of a million of this community remains "impossible".

Statistics show that from August 2017, rising violence forced about 740,000 Rohingya people from Rakhine state to flee to Bangladesh, raising the total number of Myanmar refugees in Bangladesh to more than 900,000.

Earlier on August 20, the UN Refugee Agency and Bangladeshi authorities consulted over 3,000 Rohingya from Myanmar to determine cases in need of repatriation. It was the second effort to bring home Rohingya Muslims who fled to Bangladesh two years ago. Many refused to return home due to concern over violence in the homeland.

According to the UN World Food Programme (WFP), 80 percent of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh totally rely on food provided by the WFP.

The UN relief agencies spend 24 million USD each month to offer food relief to around 900,000 Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh./.VNA
