Pagodas with over 200 years old in HCMC
Giac Lam Pagoda, also known as Cam Son or Son Can Pagoda, is the founding temple of the Lam Te Zen lineage in the South.

In contrast of the construction of new and modern buildings in Ho Chi Minh City, there have survived centuries-old pagodas with histories dating back more than 200 years, still standing across the city.

Giac Lam Pagoda in Tan Binh district

The temple is the oldest pagoda in HCMC, was built in 1744. The structure of Giac Lam pagoda consists of three main buildings: the main ceremonial hall, the preaching hall and the dining hall.

In front of the pagoda are a seven-storey high stupa and a big bodhi tree which was a gift from the Sri Lankan monk Narada planted in 1953.

Giac Vien Pagoda in Tan Binh district

Giac Vien Pagoda (Ho Dat Pagoda) located in Lac Long Quan street, Tan Binh District. The Giac Vien’s architecture is similar to that of Giac Lam Pagoda.

The pagoda has 153 Buddhist statues, mostly made of wood.

Lady Thiên Hậu

The Lady Thiên Hậu temple located in District 5 was built in 1760.

The construction design of the pagoda was influenced by Chinese architecture with four connecting buildings. The festival of worshipping Thiên Hậu Lady is on the 23rd day of the 3rd month of lunar year.

Phung Son Pagoda

Phung Son Pagoda located in District 11 was established by Zen Master Liễu Thông in the early 19th century.

About 40 Buddhist statues are worshiped at the pagoda.

Sung Duc Pagoda

Sung Duc Pagoda in Thu Duc District was built in 1806.
