Kho Gia Gia Festival of Ha Nhi ethnic group in Lao Cai’s highland
Kho Gia Gia Festival usually takes place in vacant land nearly forest

 “Kho Gia Gia” is a traditional festival hosted by the Ha Nhi ethnic group in Bat Xat highland of Lao Cai province to pray for a joyful harvest and a good life.

The festival held annually in the sixth lunar month

Young men attend the rite for dissecting buffalo to sacrifice to the god

Each family prepares offering tray themselves to bring to the dedicating ceremony of the festival

Each offering tray includes buffalo meat and agricultural products such as chicken, pork, soybean, red pumpkin, peanut, white wine, etc

Shaman in Y Ty commune’s Choan Then village prepares offerings for the rite

Two shamans perform rites for dedicating Gods of earth, water and jungle

Shamans check ferris wheels before allowing local people and children to play

After offering rites, offering trays are moved to shack and representatives of local families gather for enjoying the meal and sharing production experience to each others

During the festival, people in the village have 3 days off to relax and abstain to chop down trees, collect firewood, and dig soil these days
